Meteor Crater, Arizona

Meteor Crater, also known as Barringer Crater, is a striking natural landmark located in the northern Arizona desert. This immense crater, approximately 1,200 meters (3,900 feet) in diameter and 170 meters (560 feet) deep, was formed around 50,000 years ago by the impact of a nickel-iron meteorite estimated to have been about 50 meters (160 feet) across. The site offers a unique glimpse into the powerful forces of our solar system, featuring an extensive visitor center with exhibits on the geology, history, and science of meteorite impacts. Visitors can explore the crater rim, take guided tours, and enjoy breathtaking views of this well-preserved impact site, which remains one of the best examples on Earth.
